IT BTECs and Websites

Just had a teacher through the door talking about IT BTECs.

 

Apparently one of the requirements is for students to:

• Create a multipage website
  
• Upload and maintain it
  

 

It's not clear whether by upload it means we'd have to create a webserver with space for each student as you would for a professional website. Or could we let them save the website in a folder and run the website from there with maintenance simply being updating the files in the folder.

 

Any experiences with the BTECs and what they mean?

Where did you get the information about uploading the site? I did a BTEC in IT and the websites we made were simply in a folder on the hard drive, we didn't have to put them on a dedicated server or anything like that.

 

Might have changed now of course, but seems like overkill if that is the route you have to go down.

we have just had some student that required this.

 

I created them a new shared drive with individual names in so:

 

for example mandy would have media.george.........sch.uk/mandy

then tom would have media.george....sch.uk/tom

 

but the requirments ment it had to be live.

It was in the spec that the teachers gave us. I'd have to check for sure but I assume it is an extract from the exam spec provided by the exam board.

I've just had a copy of an e-mail from another school which said they believed that it is acceptable to create a folder to which students can copy their website and run it from the folder. Any 'maintenance' being done by copying the updated files to that folder.

 

We'll go with that, it's less hassle than webservers!
