Hello,

Hopefully a quick one here:

Is it possible to use both SAS and SATA drives inside a HP DL360 G5 at the same time? I have a server which is using SAS drives, and I would like to store some archives from this server on a HP SATA drive as I can get 400GB on the SATA side of things (maximum SAS I can find is 300GB). Can I mix both types in the same server?

Depends on the controller in the box, the 400i controller apparently supports mixing and matching, but I've not tried it.

You are aware you can't add them to your current RAID set though right? (well, not with using all the available space anyway)

Thanks. We have the 400i. The drive wouldn't be part of any RAID as it's just used to hold mail archives, which are then backed up elsewhere.

I have used this setup, it definatly supports it on that controller as one of my sites has a SAS raid1 and SATA raid1 setup in a ML350 with that RAID controler in it. Edited by SYNACK

I'm with SYNACK on this I have run both in an ML350 BUT with SAS in one array and SATA in the other.

Ive never tried to create a logical array with different types mixed, I would be surprised if it works but not amazed as these boxes keep on running!

Unfortunately I have some disks but no chassis in stock to play with otherwise I would give it a go.
