Selling old kit, how?

We're trying to look into making the most of the equipment we're replacing soon (this is for the school not ourselves) Does anyone here sell school kit with the prospect of the money made going back into the ICT budget?

 

And if so how and where do you sell them? Sell to other schools? Ebay appears to be out of the question due to various reasons.

We have sold stuff to private individuals and companys etc... as long as you charge vat on the final invoice for it you are fine.

Not sell, but we have bought equipment off other schools before - bulk loads of a classroom of PCs and/or screens, for instance. If you have a classroom's worth of kit, or maybe a half-dozen workstations that could go in a classroom somewhere, you could probably find a school somewhere that could use them - posting an advert on EduGeek is probably a good way to start. What is it you're planning to sell, and how come you can't make use of it yourself?

Well i don't know what exact kit we have yet until i make an inventory of it, but possibly some switches, a 4108 core switch, 1 old server (large 4U or something one, would have to check the spec), we'll no doubt have loads of old PCs that will be surpluss to requirements come summer too (athlon 64 3000/3200s with 512mb ram - though these aren't in cases, just motherboards processors, ram, graphics card, about 20 others that are in cases though which i think are currently P4s)

 

Possibly even have some HP Proliant servers too, DL360 G4s i think with 8GB of ram, maybe, depending on wether we reuse it after it's replaced, a DL320 G5p

 

If we keep it all it'll all be sat in a container where damp will no doubt eventually kill it all, if i can try and make £5000 out of all our old replaced kit then we would be able to upgrade our main storage to a nice new 16 drive 10GBps iSCSI-SAS drive eonstor which is my primary goal from all this, it's one of the main limiting factors of our network right now (the speed of our current eonstor)

 

Currently we've budgeted for...well ALOT...and the eonstor would tip our budget into the area where we would struggle throughout the year.
