ljlbray Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 I have a crazy teacher at the school. The speakers spookily blew completely on their own (HA) We have new ones on order to be fitted. This particular member of staff needs 4, maybe 5 visits a day to keep her happy. ANYWAY The most recent thing is that when teacher tries to play any sound from the PC on a set of temporary speakers, the sound won't play...UNLESS I click the mouse - it won't play more than say, half a second, but it plays!! So if I constantly clicked the mouse it would play constant sound....Am I going crazy? Or could anyone help me? Said teacher is getting verrry agitated any I can't work it out!!
ICT_GUY Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 Yes degaussing the teacher should definitely work, 240V using unshielded copper wire will work well.

Thanks for the posts guys, very helpful on making ME smile a little bit, but any input on any ideas of fixes? I take it by joke responses I am doing something stupid...or noone knows the answer - there's noone else on google who even mentions anything similar. Stupid grrrr

Off the top of my head it could be the player you are using to play back the file, it could be the format of the file or it could be a codec issue..... Someone else may think of other things it could be but they would be my first guesses with the information given

Dom_ Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 Does the machine have an onboard speaker? If so do you have the same issue when just using that? Is there any audio software on the machine (or just the base driver) some of the audio driver software on some of our machines is a pita. As others have said - try a different player? Try unplugging the mouse?

I should have thought of the sound driver...I'll go and reinstall it when the coast is clear. I feel awful! How do you cheer up upset teachers who are on the edge - I'm not exactly an ogre but I feel like one now!!
penfold Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 Dont worry about it, you didn't cause the problem and are investigating how to solve it. Remember to inform teachers even though you are not in their room you may still be working on their problem. And yeah, check the audio driver, there may be an update. 1

Not a PS2 mouse with bent pins is it, maybe? When you push a button, you are making a circuit of sorts, hence the sound plays? When I was working at a local Uni, we had a machine that blue screened during boot; virtually rebuilt the damn thing with new memory, new hard drive, new mainboard and several re-installs of the Windows 2000 OS. It wasn't until the mouse was replaced because the original one actually got crushed underneath a trolley after falling on the floor, that the machine ran without issue. Plugged the remains of the old mouse back in, blue screen, take out, replace, no problem. I would never have thought that a mouse could or would cause hardware issues, up until then. tech_guy Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 We had a member of staff continually complaining about lack of sound - turns out it was self inflicted - they would unplug their pc and plug their ipod in so they could play music before work, then forget to plug the pc back in again..... 1
