I have a PC that beeps like a nutter (not in a discernable pattern) during startup and then stops when you log-in. If you shutdown, beeping resumes until it turns off. I unplugged keyboard and mouse - didn't stop. Got me scratching my head... I know I could unplug speaker, but it wasn't doing this before Xmas.

could be an overloaded power supply , had an HP a while back with a really quite beeping during start up tried everything and changed the bios battery and it stopped!

Odd one tho

Hmm, check PSU then. Funny why it stops when I log-in. It shouldn't be under a heavy load either as it's just a bog-standard PC - same as the other 14 PC's in the room....

Try resetting the BIOS to defaults and check the CPU temp and fan speed whilst you're in there. Does seem a little odd though I must admit.

As it doesn't seem to be a discernible pattern try replacing the keyboard- maybe one of the keys is a bit stuck and the process of logging in releases it.

Edit: Just spotted you've already done this, apologies for not reading correctly in the first place.

is this a Acer M series by anychance as my friends did the same in the end it was faulty MB;)

Nope. It's just a generic Intel D945 mobo-based unit from Stone.

Well, just got back to this problem. I did a little more testing (last time I was on my way off the site and only had a quick poke at it in passing), and found that it didn't beep while booting in safe mode, but started again once it reached the log-in screen. This time though the beeping stopped after removing the keyboard so I tested with another one and it didn't beep again! You'd think that the beeps would've stopped after unplugging the keyboard in normal mode...
