SIMS VLEExport Legal/Preferred Surname problem

We have an issue where the VLEExport tool in SIMS.net only exports the legal surname (according to Fronter support) so usernames are set up using that name. We have at least 1 pupil who doesn't know their legal surname, so we can't issue these usernames until we can use preferred surnames.

 

The suggestion I've been given is that we can edit individual accounts, but as we have quite a few pupils with different preferred surnames to legal, this is a lot of admin fiddling when it should be automatic.

 

Does anyone agree that VLEExport should be using preferred details rather than legal?

 

I'm looking to see how to create a change request on Capita Supportnet, but there is no category that seems appropriate...

As far as I am aware the export file here is set up by my LA rather than by Fronter (or Capita). Also we have pupils with preferred surnames and these (not the legal ones) have been taken as usernames in Fronter presumably by the export file.

I've heard back from our LEA guys now, and it is actually supposedly a choice they made at the LEA. I have no idea why though, it makes zero sense.

Well if it's an LEA decision then they can decide on the change. It can't be that difficult just a bit of a code change to select a different field?
