Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones

I was impressed with these in JOhn Lewis last week, are they worth it? At over £200 they seem steep - but I like my music and listen a lot through headphones.

 

Tempted but would like opinions.

One of the guys I work with has a pair.

 

They're great for noisecancelling, so listening on a plane or something is great, but they were too weedy in bass and mid range for my tastes, personally i also found a good pair of over ear cup headphones tend to isolate well enough to not need any noisecancelling.

 

I've a pair of these which are great for most things Sennheiser UK - HD 202

 

and a pair of skullcandy crushers for when i want to deafen myself....

My husband has the Bose ones that he swears by... he flies to India regularly and uses them to shut out the rest of the world! Very pricey, but very good.

 

Teenage son also swears by Sennheiser, though he uses in-ear ones. He claims not to be able to hear anything else when he has the headphones in... but that's probably due to volume and whether he wants to ignore me!

Is the noise canceling required? There are much better headphones out there. I prefer open headphones as you can hear things like the phone and people talking to you. Oh, and you don't get hot ears either

 

If you listen a lot, in a quiet environment then something like the Sennheiser HD650s are very good. Use a pair of the older 600s at home.

Personally I opted for a pair of Sennheiser PXC 350's. They work great and feel pretty sturdy. If you want to spend more then there's also the Sennheiser PXC 450's which have a few more features and the audio drivers are supposed to be slightly better

I have just bought a pair of Sennheiser HD 212's for £40 out of Richer Sounds. Would recommend these for mobile music listening, but just looking at the 202s that some kind soul has linked to, looks just the ticket for the home stereo

I've got a pair of the Bose headphones and they are the best headphones I've ever had. Fantastic on a flight for drowning out the noise of the engines. They are also incredibly comfortable - in fact my partner is forever pinching them to use around the house for this reason.
