SpuffMonkey Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 How do you cope with logins for supply teachers? I've tried having fixed logins/passwords per dept - but the kids were onto that pronto. I've tried making them come and get a password from me - but that's too hard. Invariably they end up logged in as one of the regular staff under a "borrowed" password. Any ideas for making this work a bit better? Cheers
beeswax Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 in our case we have a naming convention for staff usernames, then set the password to xxxxxxxxx (not literally xxx...) and force the user to change their password at first login. I've never come across two teachers choosing the same password yet, which doesn't mean that it won't happen, but the username convention will sort that out
plexer Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 Sorry beeswax but I don't see how that helps with temporary supply staff? Ben
GrumbleDook Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 Have a series of usernames for supply staff ... supply01, etc ... Give this list to whoever sorts out your supply and when a supply teacher comes in to the school inthe morning at the same time as picking up their itinary for the day they pick up the username too ... the list has a password next to it and your supply guru tells you that username x has been used so you change it to something else by the end of the day (or delegate permission to the supply guru). A bit annoying but workable.
Ric_ Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 Only long-term supply where I am get to use the computers... just one advantage of not using PC-based registration! You could set your supply accounts to expire after one day to prevent (ab)use.
MkII Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 Sorry beeswax but I don't see how that helps with temporary supply staff? Ben Ours would be allocated a two charachter staff initial so that would be thier username - a standardised first-time password that's forced to change - works fine.
beeswax Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 Sorry beeswax but I don't see how that helps with temporary supply staff? Ben sorry, multitasking, didn't read the question fully. same as grumbledook.
Sylv3r Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 As stated above, short term supply are now given usernames / passwords. If any supply comes in for longterm sickness, maternity etc, they get their own account setup similar to all normal members of teaching staff.
