Excellent Primary Websites?

Hi there, I'm sprucing up our primary school website and want it to be excellent!

Would you care to share any links to really good Primary websites (that have perhaps been praised in Ofsted reports)?

What features do you think should really be included to make them as useful as possible?

I've seen quite a few nice school websites based around Moodle Appearance is one thing, but what it contains and how informative it is for pupils, parents and teachers is extremely important.

Don't know about Excellent but I look after three at the moment, two complete and one in development. Two use a template based format and can be customised one was done in frontpage.

If you go and have a look at the newsletters and documents you will see I have used the ipaper idea so that the newsletters go straingt to the site without me having to do any formatting of it and it can be in most file types.

 

Front page based (been done about two years)

 

 

Woodfiled Primary School Website. (OK but have usual problem of getting info from staff to put on it)

 

Hope they give you some ideas what to do or not to do if the case may be. Rather grown fond of the template based idea as it quite simple to do, and I may be able to get other staff to do it for me, like adding newsletters etc.

Hmm... smartpaper is a good idea.

I use pdf format for newsletters etc.

Some parts of our website are created using google sites. That way they can be (in theory) easily updated by staff. In practice, so far this means the admin staff uploading a copy of each letter home as they type it (thus avoiding me having to do it)!

 

Having a staff list is quite a good idea too (didn't really think of that before!)

I've seen a fair few Primary School Website's done in the EduGeek Joomla Template.

 

Have you thought of using that?

The Robin Hood site is very good - lots of interaction with the kids and parents through the forums. Would love to find a clear simple moderatable way of setting up forums like that!

 

Also taking the point about making sites colourful for kids. Have to think about how toget the right balance between fun and child friendly/professional and corporate!

Were doing the same with our website the new one is based upon WordPress (with a few things mixed in of my own design.

We did our layout in a fantastic application called Artisteer - Artisteer - joomla template generator and wordpress theme generator

Its expecily useful if your a beginner to web design (as I still am).
