USB to Serial Converter

I needed a Keyspan adapter for one of my schools, so I get purchasing to get one. I specified which Keyspan model we needed (usa19h or something). Anyhoo, I get a Lindy USB to Serial Converter. Great stuff. However the Promethean activ driver isn't picking it up. And on the cd there looks to be no XP driver, so I browse to the website, and the same set of drivers are on there that are on the CD. So I then go to the chip manfacturers website (after reading through the PDF file that I downloaded) and tried to use them drivers. But no such luck.

 

My question is, has any one else used the same converter and got it working? If so, please could you link me to the xp drivers for it?

i have a generic driver as they are a swine to sort out. Is there a way i can get this to you ? it is 3,593,263 bytes in size.

I have had the same issue - and NEVER got the Lindy to work with the Promethean boards- only the Keyspan I'm afraid. I bought mine from Simon at CP

Simon, I think we haven't ordered from CP (to my knowledge anyway, as I am just a 'local tech monkey') because we can only purchase from approved suppliers. I will however pass your info onto my boss, to see if he can get you onto the approved suppliers list, but I can't promise anything.

 

I spoke to my boss concerning the lindy produt and he has a spare that I am going to use, however I will be keeping the driver for use at a later date should a simmilar situation arise, thanks.

I have recently acquire a 2nd hand lindy usb<>rs485 converter cable. I found this forum-link, since I have a problem interpreting how to connect the db9-male pins to my rs485 transceiver which has a connection marked Gnd, +/- thus 3-pins. I assume the +/- is similar to the transceiver ic output driver/receiver A/B (ti SN65HVD12DR). On the lindy user-guide th db9 pins 1,2,3,4 5(gnd) refers to

Pin Def Desciption

1 DM (1)Tx/Rx-

2 DP (1)Tx/Rx+

3 DP (2)Tx/Rx+

4 DM (2) Tx/Rx-.

5 GND

Rest i see as Handshake signals.

 

Now, my query, where do I get my rs485-device +/- pins?

 

As you can probably deduce from this, I am not a skilled-tech person,

however, I do know that one is suppose to drive and communicate with only 1xpair of twisted wires thus my device

connection pins of +- (gnd optional?)

Having had the same issue I found out our 6 year old boards have USB ports on the module on the back of the board just we power the board via the serial port still and direct connect via USB with 64bit version of the activ driver from support site. Might be worth checking you don't have USB B port(printer cable) on the module on back of board.
