Smart Board Drivers

Not sure this is the right place to put this, but when a program, such as Word (2003), is launched on a PC connected to a SMART board it loads the 'Windows is configuring SMART Board drivers'. It only takes 20 or so seconds to do and only has to be done once when logged in. But its starting to annoy some teachers (I know, I know. It only takes 20 secs).

 

Anyone else experienced this on XP pc's?

yeah we have the same problem...

 

solong as its run properly the very first time after its been imaged we never get it back...

same here, seems OK if you load it all up as an admin before letting teachers loose with it.

Tried that as I thought it may have been a profile issue but no. Its the same with admin rights user.

Used to have the problem loads here, we sorted by doing two things:

 

Making sure the software was installed with a local admin account, then running the software with an administrator account on the network!

 

Seemed to solve it!

you arnt running that best ever piece of software abacus interactive are you as i believe a windows update has nana'd it just needs the origional cd refed into it and it stops bugging you

I've discovered that the smart drivers are just a complete POS. They do not work with UAC enabled on Vista as they write to HKLM entries, but run as the current user and not as a system service like the promethean boards.

 

You can disable most of the annoying things with the smart drivers with the admin install guide however.

 

I'm guessing you deployed them with with an MSI in AD?

No we did a manual install I think. I'll have to try the uninstall and re-install. Didn't really want to do that as we have about 40 of the damn things!
