Removing Remote Connection program

Hi,

 

How would i go about uninstalling the remote desktop connection program. I have tried to disabled the option named "Allow users to connect remotely using terminal services" But they are still able to open the program.

 

Can anyone help?

Not sure if you can un-install it, but you could use software restrictions to block access to it. The program is called mstsc.exe and resides in the system32 directory.

 

Altunatively, you could write a VBS script which checks for the exe file, and deletes it, but that might cause a windows file protection message when you logon as admin.

 

The group policy you're refering to is to do with users remote connecting to the PC, and not to do with running the terminal program.

Indeed. Remove mstsc.exe or termsvr.dll from the Windows directory, they will no longer be able to access remote machines.

 

Or alternatively, leave mstsc intact and remove termsvr from machines you don't want accessed, and sorted.

But what happens when your at that workstation fixing a problem and want to RDP into a server? Instead of removing it/running another script - I think disabling RDP via software restriction policies is the way to go.

What is prompting you to remove it?

Depending on the set up of your system (i.e if it's just pupils and staff you want to block from using rdp) you'll probably have the groups of users in relevant ou's already, if not do it. You can then apply a policy to the groups and block remote desktop (as said above, mstsc)
