FN-GM Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 Hi, Does anyone know of any good Tourist Attractions in Sydney please? I want peoples personal opinions really rather than a glossy website telling me how good they are etc. Im looking at a day trip Cheers

cookie_monster Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 Yep harbor bridge. Also take the ferry to Manly. Bondi beach of course and the moonlight cinema is great if you're there at night. If you get change take a trip to the Blue Mountaing they're stunning.

As beaches go Papamoa Beach in NZ is much more attractive.
jamesmay Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 Coogee beach is worth a look, much prettier and less commercial than bondi, taronga zoo, the aquarium, the rocks market on a sunday afternoon, then in the blue mountains try and get to the jenowan caves!

cookie_monster Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 Of course there’s the obligatory photo op by the funny shaped building nr the harbour TBH there’s loads to do and most can be accessed on foot I stayed at Sydney Central YHA, it’s near China town and although it looks a way to the harbour it’s about a 30 min walk so no time at all in a cab of on the bus. StewartKnight Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 Taronga Zoo (can't really remember the spelling) is worth a visit, plus there is the Sydney Aquarium, but I prefered Taronga as I got to see a platypus (not Perry the Platypus, he's an eight legged mammal of action, don't ya know!) up close!

Recorded it on my phone as well, bit of a brown trousers moment.

The passion that all employees had working there really does shine, and was one of the highlights or my trip to Oz. As cookie says, make sure you take a camera:)

eduabncs Posted December 9, 2009 Posted December 9, 2009 North of Sydney there is Palm Beach (where they film beach sceanes for 'Home & Away), and it is also one of the gateways to the Hunter Valley region. Slightly further north is Port Stephens and it's associated beach and sand dunes etc. As as Brisvegas (Brisbane) boy born and bred I prefer much further north but Sydney amd surrounds has a lot to offer & enjoy.

Was that the backpackers down Victoria Street in Kings Cross? I lived there for six weeks back in 1987 - ace place and ace times!
RabbieBurns Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 Nah I ended up staying in the Sydney Central YHA and paid their exhorbatent prices. My rent in a 3bedroom house just now is cheaper than an 8-bed share in that place heh. Was walking distance to the Celtic Supporters Club

OutLawTorn Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 Some of the nicer but not-so-well-known places: Blues Point (especially at night)... its on the Northern side of the harbour, great view of city/bridge/opera house... North/Middle/South head... great views of the city, as well as boats coming in/out of Sydney Harbour
