Hi,

This has probably been discussed before but can't seem to find it.

We are thinking of buying a colour laser for the careers library. This is fine during the day but for a night time, the pupils are free to use the room with staff supervision, but not sure if they could manage what they are printing.

Apart from specific software, is there any way of that printer not been available to print between set hours ?

Thanks

Is it local or networked? Are the computers that they are using local or networked? Could you just ensure that the student logins do not have access to this printer?

Or am i totally getting this wrong somehow?

Thanks. Forgot about that. Although when i've just tested it, it puts it in the queue so when the printer does come available, there is a back log.

Could you not create some kinda script to clear the queue? (Zak? :D)

Exactly what i was thinking... some sort of timer on the power supply for the printer and a script to clear down the printer queue that runs at 6am every morning.

Thanks. Yeah the printer will be networked on 2003 server. As long as everyone can print during the day thats fine. I can do the "available times" thing providing I can get a script to clear the queue as 6am on a morning.

What is it with 6am, it seems to be the suggested time to run anything. :D

Too early for the teachers to be in. Late enough for it not to interfere with anything important! :D
