Site to Site Leased Line

We are considering getting a leased line to connect our two school sites together. Does anybody on here have this currently and would be willing to spare me a few minutes on what you use and how exactly it works in practice.

We use 2 leased lines to contact our 2 external sites to the main campus and they just act as an extension to the lan- one is 10mb and another 100mb, feel free to give me a shout to discuss setups etc.

Depending on distance and the performance required, you may find a site-to-site VPN the much cheaper option! Basically if you are going to have to pay someone for leased line (eg BT) I would look at IPSEC first.

I got a quote on a LES100 to our datacentre and was told £3k install and £8kpa but that excludes internet connection.

Check to see if Virgin Media (NTL) can supply they are normally a lot cheaper than BT as we found out.

EES from BT - Extended Ethernet Services, connects two campus together, and they both act as if on the same lan. You're guaranteed lan speeds between the two as well, however campus that your connecting too, will have the internet feed of the main site.

 

(Which is what Pillock is referring too)
