leco Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 The file says it's a 97-2003 Powerpoint file but neither 2003 nor 2007 will open it. The icon is a Powerpoint one but on a piece of paper - this suggests to me that it's a conversion of some kind. Anyone got any bright ideas as to how to open it, please?

I've tried PowerPoint viewer but get ".... this is not a PowerPoint file." I'm wondering if it's a Mac version. Do they present themselves on a PC or would it be an unknown file? Will have a go at Open Office. Thanks.
farmeunit Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 What is the actual extension of the file? Maybe it got associated with it somehow, so it's showing the wrong icon. I'm not at all familiar with Macs so I can't say on that.

The child who brought it in said it was PowerPoint as well. Not that that's proof positive but they should have known what kind of stuff they'd done at least.

farmeunit Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 Most of our kids called every word processor "Word", so there's no telling. They usually are using Works, but no presentation software in Works that I know of. Good luck.
Andie Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 I've had problems with a .ppt before, but can't remember the icon being different. Anyway, we run XP and MS Office 2003, with the compatibility pack installed, but this .ppt wouldn't run at all. From an official DVD from a maths training course, so not from a pupil. All the others worked and this one wouldn't. After looking around on the web a bit, I downloaded and installed Office SP3 and it worked fine. But then you're prob nicely up to date with all that, whereas we weren't .
