Quicktime 7 on CC3 or Quicktime 6 with AppleTrailers

Hi, if any one has been to apple trailers recently you will know you need quicktime 7 to play most of the movies. Has anyone got quicktime 7 to work on CC3 as i have heard some horror stories about installing it, it not working and then being unable to uninstall it.

 

or can i patch quicktime 6 to make it work?

 

I have pulled the MSI form the installer, but before I deploy it I would like to know if any one has got it working

Quicktime 7 working fine here.

 

Can't remember exactly how or what i did for the msi, will look into it again and post back but for now it does work on CC3

There is a very complex procedure for using the native msi installer on http://www.appdeploy.com - I gave up in the end and repackaged it (just for a normal windows network but should be the same.) 'Thou shalt not repackage a MSI-based installer' is, I think, the 11th commandment; so you just have to be careful and do it on a clean PC and delete any MSI junk from the registry.

Seems to work fine here.

 

EDIT: Just remembered, I did have problems at first when I tried to get it to upgrade from v6, as v6 kept trying to reinstall itself. I happened to be rebuilding all the machines anyway but I'd make sure v6 is very well uninstalled before you put 7 on.

 

EDIT2: You can't use the msi pulled from the installer, at least with the verion I tried. Not without a lot of faffing about. See appdeploy.

Yep, QTP7 installed fine here on C3 and vanilla machines. I created a transform with much help from appdeploy to sort out Apple's MSI.

 

If you want to work with their Installshield MSI, then a read of the appdeploy knowledgebase article is required plus a good few hours.

 

One of the most annoying things is file association, which they have taken outside of the MSI tables and handle it with their own app, which requires user intervention.
