silver Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 Hi no doubt a silly question again.... I am revamping a website and the head wants some fancy scrolling stuff. It seems that I need to create a flash video file (is this right?) but I cannot find a free program that will help me do it simply. I am definitely NOT a programmer. We have no website software (eg dreamweaver). Can someone advise me what I should do? And don't say, 'Pay someone else to do it' or 'Buy a website building program' because we have NO money and so I can do neither - because, trust me, I would if I could!
chrbb Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 What do you mean by 'fancy scrolling stuff'? Do you have an example on a website that you've seen? You can do alot of fancy stuff with DHTML, look at the website - dynamic drive, there may be something on there that would be 'fancy' enough:)

Might do the trick for you anyway
silver Posted November 1, 2009 Author Posted November 1, 2009 On our current website we have a piece of swf code presenting a series of photos We would like to change these - but don't have the shockwave Flash editing tools (somebody did this as a favour for us originally) So can anyone recommend a free (easy to use) shockwave Flash editing tool thanks
rush_tech Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 You won't be able to edit the .swf file which would have been created in Adobe Flash, you would need the .fla file. Then you can download a trail of flash from the adobe website
chrbb Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 Try swishzone trial download, probably a bit easier than flash. You use also javascript for an image slideshow, not as 'flashy' as err - flash, but as effective.

Hang on - do you actually want to show video, or just fade / scroll between a bunch of static images? The Flash IDE refers to SWF files as "Flash movies", but that doesn't have anything to do with video. What you actually need is a simple plugin for your webpage that you can give a bunch of images and leave to get on with the scrolling / fading / whatever business. As pointed out, you can do that these days with Javascript (DHTML) - try the JQuery Javascript library, or Yahoo's YUI. As this has to be number 1 improve-the-website task requested, plenty of people out there must have already done this, so you'd think somewhere there'd be a bit of copy-and-paste JQuery or something that you can hand a bunch of JPEGs and leave to get on with it. There is also bound, somewhere, to be a Flash-based solution already done. If there isn't then we need this exact same functionality, so at some point I'll either find or write one myself. -- David Hicks
silver Posted November 2, 2009 Author Posted November 2, 2009 Now you lovely lot have blinded me with technicalities! What we have is a set of pictures that fade into each other, and that is all we really want. I just need to change the pictures (or just create a whole new set). I will have a look at DHTML etc but I'm afraid that it sounds a bit beyond me, I'm afraid. I don't have any experience other than changing the odd bit on a website.

I have no experience of html and cannot edit it I'm afraid. Could you point me at what I want? Thanks
