faza Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 I have this HP 2600N printer on a Server 2003 domain. I have XP sp3 clients who are trying to print to it. Scenario: My machine and my colleagues will print to it. But when we go to down to the office where the printer is located it and try to print from the four machines nothing prints. I have tried taking a new laptop down and trying to print but nothing. I have tried to print to other printers from that office but nothing gets printed. I have tried everything disabled the bi-directional and all the other settings mentioned in the different forums. Can someone please help Faza
IrritableTech Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 This is a host based printer, rather than a workgroup one. To get it working correctly, you'll need to connect the clients directly to the printer, and forget your 2003 print server. Oh and turn of bi-directional communication. This printer causes all sorts of bother.
gshaw Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 We've got one running off the print server and it's behaved itself pretty well, only thing it has a habit of doing is forgetting its static IP from time to time Out of interest how have you got it networked? We set a local TCP\IP port and share out from there...

ces973 Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 We've got a few running off 2003R2, and like was mentioned above, you need to turn off bi-directional printing and they lose their IP's every so often. Other than that, they work pretty well.

We set a local TCP\IP port and share out from there... Interesting... Can't get ours (all three of them) working correctly at all. They keep crashing the spooler on the server. Tried numerous standard drivers and the Hp universal. They're all working at the moment, but directly, rather than via the print server.

If you want the server to control printing check out the wiki and make sure you've followed it (and not just bits of it ) (but you can miss out step one as it does actually print from somecomputers ) Then delete printer from clients and re-install. Alternatively just use the CD on each client computer and don;t install on the server. Don't mix and match methods regards Simon

Btw we run x86 for our print servers and x64 drivers still don't seem to be as plentiful... also if you had the batch of drivers HP made a year or two back they caused all kinds of spooler crashes and associated aggro! Kill any remnants of old drivers from Printers, Server Properties and remove from there Also cleanspl for the clients, works really well but don't delete the TCPIP Monitor driver...
