RC1 on Win2k3 (R2) Domain

Had a go at this today -

 

Logged in as the test pupil and it worked a lot better than Beta 2 did - though I'm suspecting that this may have been due to the installation of R2 on the servers now..

 

Will try and get screenshots tomorrow

But BGInfo applied the wallaper, Kix ran and applied printers (though it did ask me to install the drivers)

Start Menu Redircetion worked

Main restrictions worked regarding desktop, etc

 

Problems:

Games folder appeared on Start menu, as did Lock Computer but all else hidden

 

Will need to try some other programs on it as well..

As im short of time, have they put back the proper CTRL+ALT+Delete logon screen, or are we still "welcome screen" type logon?

Still on the dumbarsed welcome screen and as far as I can see there is no method of making change the default "log on to" domain to one that the PC isn't a member of. You have to put in the full upn or put in DOMAIN\username. Joy.

I will have to install it ASAP and then get back in my MSFT Beta Forum and get this issue bugged again as its a joke, people hate having to put in DOMAIN\Username to get on to OWA, so how they gonna mange for windows logons, or even using FQDN! I can think of some schools I know which would have fun with that USERNAME@SCHOOLS_LONG_WAFFLY_TRIBARRLED_NAME.COUNTY.SCH.UK

to be fair, you can hack up the ASP and make OWA work wiht a default domain. Is there no registery keys you can set to make it behave?

Never looked at hacking OWA to make it pre-populate, but its not that hard to do, its just the usual moans that you get from people.

Not sure if this is a feature of Small Business Server or not, but on my work network (SBS2003, XP clients) OWA always pre-populates the domain both internally and when outwith the network.

Don't think so, must be something that someone has setup as my SBS system I manage doesn't do this

I don't know if SBS sets this automatically (the next post suggests not) but all my OWA installs have always done this with no problem. It's a very simple case of configuring the authentication settings for teh exchange subwebs correctly in IIS.

I think it is dependant on whether the account of the person who holds the email address is a member of the same domain as the Exchange server. For example, when I access OWA outside of the school, I can just put in my account name and password. However, anyone who is in the Staff domain which is a child domain in the same forest, you have to put STAFF\username.

Nope, no users in the same domain as the Exchange servers here. Works fine. No trouble at all.

Well I must be lazy and forgot to fully configure IIS part of Exchange, after reading the entire SBS 2003 book cover to cover and then starting on the Exchange book, I gave over as they get very repetitive.
