[clonezilla] Clonezilla seems slow

I'm using Clonezilla on a USB drive to image some netbooks to a Seagate Freeagent. When I create the image it seems to take a very long time the last one took about 45 mins to create a 6Gb image. The image is ok and I can apply it to another netbook it just seems to take a long time Ghost does a similar size image in < 5 mins.

 

Is it generally a slow app or is it possible i've not got something set right? This seems unlikely as it's pretty straight forward to use.

Have you tried a different USB drive? I usually get around 800MB/minute with CloneZilla on a standard desktop conventional hard drive which would roughly agree with your estimation of 5 minutes to move 6GB with Ghost.

Do you mean the drive with Clonezilla on or the free agent drive that i'm copying the image to?

We've never had any trouble with clonezilla being slow here but generally we clone to nas or device to device.

 

I guess the guy above means the free agent drive, this is really the only place that could cause a bottleneck.

I might try a different freeagent to see if that makes any difference. It takes 20 mins to deploy an image as but in the end it works so at least I have that for now.

Also check which setting you are using for image compression, some of the more thorough settings take forever.

USB does take a while for larger files ie 6Gb plus so either a NAS thats gigabit or another interface ie eSata.

When I analysed the created image it had a massive file named "hidden data end of mbr" I created a new image with a different netbook and it's fine.
