Our SENCo has some children whose writing skills are very poor and she would like them to have digital voice recorders to take home so that they can record their ideas even if they can't write them down.

Has anyone any experience of these or can recommend one?

Thanks

We use Olympus WS-311M's. We've got about 10 of them that we lend out as people require them (barcoded and etched) and have never had any complaints. Think we got them through CCS Media but they should be fairly easy to find. :)

The TTS Easi-Speak is exactly what you want:

TTS - Easi-Speak

Cheap (£30 each), robust, easy to use (record, plug in to computer USB port, acts as memory stick), perfectly decent audio quality, recharges via USB. They do work fine handheld, but you might want to get a cheap eBay or similar microphone stand to use with them to avoid rattling sounds. The body is a bit thicker than a standard microphone, so you want to get the bulldog-clip style stands that can take mics of various sizes.

We have various Olympus models - all very good and easy to extract the audio - via USB.

Most of them have been around the £50 - £70 mark.

Worth adding, just bearing in mind your other post about voice recognition software, that what sounds fine to your ear doesn't necessarily make for good enough quality to use with voice recognition software. I'm not sure if the Easi-Speaks would work well with Naturally Speaking, you'd want to buy one to check first before you bought a lot.
