Mac licences and updates

good morning all im looking at proposing getting macs for our art department.

 

but i was wondering what happens about when updates are done (ie 10.5 to 10.6) i know you have to pay for these as a home user (is it about £30 ish) but if we end up getting loads i dont wanna shell out £30 * Xnumber of stations

At this point you should either get 10.6 or if you get 10.5 you can get a free upgrade although they may charge you about a tenner per client but if you call apple direct and sort it out with them over the phone and request 10.6 they should sort it out for you.

Apple runs a volume licensing programme for education. I'm not sure on costs but any Apple Solutions Expert should be able to advise.

 

There's also dirt cheap site licenses for things like iLife, Logic Pro Studio, Final Cut Pro, ARD, etc.

With regards to upgrading OSX if you purchased any Mac or an OSX Volume license after a new version has been announce by Apple (ie 23rd June this year Snow Leopard was announced) you qualify for the free upgrade refered to above. However this will now not be the case until 10.7 is announce. Apple therefore offer a discounted upgrade price for anyone upgrading from the previous version (currently 10.5 to 10.6). We are currently supplying these to educational establishments for £18.50 per license.
