Managed to get this joomla drop down menu working after a weeks work, but now have a weird box at the side of every menu (see image)

and i can't for the life of me manage to get rid of them. Any Ideas?

There bullet points inherited from somewhere else (sorry for not being able to post before, but for some reason the image wouldn't download)

 

Okay without seeing your code I can't say that this will work but it should be the prority when the browser reads the css. The more specific the refrence to the item, then the higher the prority.

would preferably like to see the actual html up until the menu...

 

but you can try this...

in IE 8 press F12, then click the "select element by click" icon (mouse pointer).

 

Click the menu item with the odd image. It should make it clear where it is being inherited from.

 

from there you can remove the reference from the inherited style or you can make a style rule that will take precident by being more specfic and referencing containers from further down the tree.
