Hi to everyone on the forum.

I came across this website while looking for employment within the education sector and wondered if i could be given some pointers on what is required to be become a ICT Tech within education.

Currenty i install networks, EPOS systems etc and have completed a CCNA course around 4 years ago, currently i am self studying A+ and then onto MCDST. I also have experience with setting up and installing OH projector systems/ AV systems.

My question is what sort of skill sets are required to enter as a ICT tech and am i going down the correct path with my self study.

Any guidance would be much appreciated.

Regards

Welcome,

I started working in my school just over 18months ago. All I had at the time was a newly aquired A+ Tech qual and was working on my MCDST (now on to MCSA). The vast majority of stuff you should be ok with experience and knowledge wise, and for everything else you have the awesome power of the 'geek :D:cool:

Other essential skills required for a school tech are: - see into the future, read minds, perform miracles*

Good luck!

*these may not be true

These are true, but sadly the Crystal Ball hardware is very unreliable, even if you do remember to renew the license.

Having worked in Technical Support outside schools, I can say that TBH you get this everywhere! :D

Hi cyclops, you have more than enough qualifications to be an IT Tech. My first full time job was an IT Technician. I had no previous experiance and the only qualification I had was a Btec National Diploma in Telecoms (DDM, equilvent to 3 a-levels (I think)). I got the job purely based on having the right attitude and proving myself on the praticle test.
