Help please!!!!!!

 

Installed xp and all updates + software and trying to clone using clonezilla!!!!

 

Now it is throwing some errors and won't let me clone the HDD..... Any ideas as to what it could be?

Thanks for the reply, think i figured out what the problem was as i was trying to run clonezilla from a USB drive.

 

Now i have managed to boot up using clonezilla and trying to create the image.... Not sure about few things if you can help please!

 

1- I would like to back up the image onto a USB drive, is that ok to do? Does it need to be empty and FAT32 format?

 

2- Once the image is created on the drive, how do i boot up the other machines from it? Do i need to run clonezilla and choose option to restore or should i just be able to boot from the USB drive where the image is? Do i need to format it at all before using it as a boot drive?

1 - USB drive backup works great from Clonezilla, I get a lot better speeds than I did from DOS/Ghost to the same HD. It doesn't need to be empty - you are creating a file(s) which contain the image, not cloning the drive onto the USB drive in entirety. I kept my HD as FAT32, not sure if newer versions can handle backup to NTFS - doesn't make much difference if you're keeping a drive around just for cloning.

 

2) You don't boot the machines from the USB drive, you boot Clonezilla with the drive plugged in and choose the restore image->disk option - as mentioned above, you are creating a file containing the image not doing a 1:1 drive clone. You don't need to format the drive on the machine you are cloning to before restoring to it - the restore disk option will overwrite the partition table and any existing partitions.

Just to thank Bez and OutToLunch, been great help and i've finished cloning all machines using clonezilla... Can't believe how easy it was to use it.
