Assessment and Progress

Out of interest, how many people here work in Student Assessment and Progress? (Compiling reports, setting up SIMS for it, etc).

 

Interested to hear your views on the job.

I do.

 

It's data-management. Staring at figures all day and generally fighting with the incredibly unfriendly UI of AssMan in SIMS.

 

What sort of thing do you want to know?

Yeah I somehow fell into taking some of this on a while ago (not exactly sure how tbh).

Really enjoyable as it appeals to my maths brain but have agreed to scale back as I just dont have the time on to of doing my actual job.

I do it myself and actually enjoy it when things are going right.

 

Was just curious to see how many we have on here and what they generally do, what systems they recommend, sites as resources, etc. I'm doing it as a job term-time only though in the eyes of the kids and staff, once a technician always a technician.

 

At the moment I am setting up the reports in both a tailor made system and in SIMS. Then collect the results and build ALPS sheets in Excel and fix all inevitable problems. Been working on how to store the data in the external reports in SIMS (when I get my few spare moments!) and was wondering what other people are using? Or anywhere to find tips for making Assessment Manager a bit friendlier to use?

Yep- I do lots of data management in our school, assessment, profiles, attendance data, Census production etc all come under my umbrella. I had an MIS role in most of my posts and love it, it adds some variety to the working week.

We have an exams / data manager here who deals with this sort of thing. If they get stuck they tend to give me a shout and i'll hopefully fix their problems.

 

We had a technician here who put together the Profiles templates for our school reports but he left so I have took this on until we get someone in to replace them. It breaks my day up a little so its not too bad.
