Batch file to alter the path

Hello, this is my first post so bare with me lol. What we need to do is create a simple batch file that will change the path on our nurse's laptops. We recently updated their java to jre6 but for whatever reason it isnt sticking in the path on several of them. So we just need to add ;C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin;C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\cLient to the end of the current path.

 

This is what i have right now and when viewed on the dos prompt it changes the path but it doesnt take affect when you look at it in environmental variables....

 

set PATH=%PATH%;C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin;C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\cLient

 

Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

set NEWPATH=%PATH%;C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin;C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\Client
reg add "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Environment" /v Path /t REG_SZ /d "%NEWPATH%" /f

 

Will append the values if write permission is available to that key.
