Edu-IT Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 Anyone got this working on Server 2003? We've had it working in the past but I'm not entirely sure how the person who used to work here did it. There's no drivers available for server 2003 on the HP website. Hmm! Probably being thick. It is Monday.
Edu-IT Posted October 5, 2009 Author Posted October 5, 2009 Is there any way I can extract the driver from the .exe that HP provide? I no longer have the printer discs, but I assume my colleague perhaps chose the 'have disk' option and then found the driver on there.
ces973 Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 We have a bunch installed on one of our servers that's running 2003. Just use the XP drivers and if they come as a .exe from HP.com, it's usually just a self-extractor. Set to something like C:\HP and pull the driver from there.
Edu-IT Posted October 5, 2009 Author Posted October 5, 2009 Any chance you can send me the drivers across? I'm not able to extract the drivers as it's throwing a wobbly.
ces973 Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 A bit wobbly is right. They changed their whole driver installer. It looks like if you have an XP box, you can download the driver and run the installer. Looks like it installs to C:\Program Files\HP. From there, they are under the Digital Imaging folder. If you're still having problems, I can RAR them up and drop them somewhere for you. Any suggestions, as they are ~30MB?
mac_shinobi Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 i normally rename the exe to a zip or a rar file type and extract that way
Edu-IT Posted October 5, 2009 Author Posted October 5, 2009 I will install the drivers on an XP machine then copy them from there?
Michael Posted October 5, 2009 Posted October 5, 2009 I would see if you can unzip it using WinRAR or similar and see how this goes. Then just install the driver/port manually.
Edu-IT Posted October 6, 2009 Author Posted October 6, 2009 Tried, tried, tried again and failed miserably! Anyone else want to give it a try for me? Be very grateful! I've found the drivers on the old network, but there's no .inf so i can't import.
mac_shinobi Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 If you go to the support and downloads section HP United Kingdom - Computers, Laptops, Servers, Printers and more Enter in 6980 and it will show you the section for the printer, click on relevant model for printer and it will prompt for which operating system, click on the windows 2000 option and try and install on server 2003 using the windows 2000 driver maybe ?
mac_shinobi Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 I right-clicked on the setup.exe file on the cd and clicked Properties and then the Compatibility tab and chose "Run this program in compatibility mode for Win 2000" and it worked fine. As for the interface, I had the printer plugged directly into my router DRIVER NEEDED: Hewlett Packard (HP) Deskjet 6980 (Windows 2003 Server) - DriverGuide Support Forums Take it they used the windows 2000 setup exe and before running the exe used compatability mode for windows 2000
Edu-IT Posted October 6, 2009 Author Posted October 6, 2009 Tried that, and it complained about colour needing to be 16 and not 32, or vice versa, and it not being a valid product. Been a long day and server is throwing a fit now so I can't get into it until I do a reboot.
mac_shinobi Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 I would contact hp directly on the phone or via email and they may be able to email you a server 2003 driver or instructions etc as when you check the specs page it shows server 2003 but the downloads page for both uk and usa do not have a downloadable driver for 2k3
Edu-IT Posted October 6, 2009 Author Posted October 6, 2009 Nobody got a disc for this that they can throw in my direction?
