ICTSM Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 Our school secretary is looking to get some hardware to help her do her duties at work...such as minute taking during meetings...dictation etc... Can anyone recommend a good solid reliable piece of hardware? Also, we looking at purchasing new PC's for the classroom. Any recommendations as to types of equipment? Obviously has to be robust enough to withstand our little darlings.

penfold Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 I've trailed the digiscribble and have to say I was quite impressed. It wasn't quite good enough for me, although my handwriting is terrible. I must say that although we were testing it for different purposes, mintue taking seemed like an ideal situation....of course you have to have good handwriting for it to work well.
jamesb Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 I reckon with a bit of OCR training something like the digiscribble could be taught to pick up Teeline and convert it to the normal alphabet, from there it'd be relatively simple to turn it into genuine text. 1
penfold Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 True enough with training you can improve the recognition, but the advantage of the digiscribble is that you also have a paper copy. So if it doesn't recognise some of the words, you still have the paper based copy to amend the electronic version. Never thought abuot training it for converting things like teeline though...good thinknig batman

There is an offer going on at the moment with HP, you buy the computer and screen, and then claim the money back for the screen, there are a few different models of machine that the offer applies to, and also covering a wide range of budgets there is a link here Toby

Still probably one of the most useful skills I've picked up though, in any situation where I need to take notes or write something for only my own use.
