eastlondon Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 I got the news from: http://www.informationweek.com/management/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=192500115 Here's the link to the download http://download.windowsvista.com/preview/prerc1/en/download.html enjoy
Norphy Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 I have to say, its one helluva improvement over Beta 2. Its a lot faster, smoother, it doesn't grind the hard drives anywhere near as much and its a fair bit more polished too. That said, it asking to do something every 14 seconds still gets on my pecks.
Gatt Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 Thats all folks... Thank you for your interest in Windows Vista. The Customer Preview Program is now closed. We have reached our goal of 100,000 downloads for the pre-RC1 release and the program is now closed. Windows Vista RC1 will be available in the coming weeks. Please refer to the Customer Preview Program website for information, including DVD-burning instructions.
kingswood Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 Downloaded mine last night. It's good. A great improvement over the last lot- a lot faster, more stable, lot more usable. Good one MS. Might now try it on a machine at work to see how it "plays".
mullet_man Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 Managed to get this in time, got it in around an hour and half here. Will take it home and install tonight. Beta 2 just seemed to access the hard drive all the time and took about 5 mins after boot to calm down. Hoping this new version will be miles better in terms of HD activity.
Gatt Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 never got a chance to try it - hoping its with Technet in September...
StewartKnight Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 I'll have to check my favourite bittorrent engine!
mullet_man Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 Was gonna install this tonight, but forgot to burn it to a DVD this afternoon
BKGarry Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 Well If Anyone Could Let Me Know on the Bit Torrent as My ISO wont Run for some reason , Might Try Burning it slowly again tonight but still. Gaz
mullet_man Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 Finally got this installed last night, its much quicker than Beta 2, the only problem is I can't get my network card working, its an on board uli ethernet. Am posting using my usb wireless stick which took me driver updates to work. Anyways impressed at the moment
tosca925 Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 Did you know that Vista RC1 build 5600 was released yesterday? I think you need to be a Beta tester to download it though, I'nm sure many of you are. I downloaded it last night from the Europe server at lightning fast speeds.
mullet_man Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 Am limited to the public releases, but just got my network card working, updated the driver via the update driver wizard it went online and found a working driver!! Well done Microsoft!!!
Norphy Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 Full blown RC1 has been released on the CPP now http://download.windowsvista.com/preview/rc1/en/download.htm both x86 and x64 versions available
Gatt Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 Cool - getting it now but gonna take a few hours Ok how do i get the Product Key? I reg'd ages ago for the CPP when Beta 2 was released - but no email from MS...
nsherin Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 Cheers for the link - downloading it now as we speak! I take it my Beta 2 key will work with this (I got sent the offcial Beta 2 DVD a month or so ago).
Gatt Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 i dont think the Beta 2 CD Key will work with RC1 - U usually need a new key
nsherin Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 Thanks - several sources I've read - including here seem to indicate that the Beta 2 keys are the ones to use. Will install it tomorrow night hopefully (after Ghosting my Windows partition first ) and will report back with my findings when I get a chance.
kingswood Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 Yep- I used my Beta 2 key for the RC1 download. Worked fine.
griffin Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 Cool - getting it now but gonna take a few hours Ok how do i get the Product Key? I reg'd ages ago for the CPP when Beta 2 was released - but no email from MS... same problem
Gatt Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 Yep- I used my Beta 2 key for the RC1 download. Worked fine. Cool its working for me as well
Ric_ Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 I downloaded my copy from the Beta tester site (thanks to Nick Umney for that ) and it does specifically say that you should use your existing key (in huge bold lettering)... just to clear up any confusion I've only had a little play so far but IMHO it isn't vastly different to the last build... although the 'Ribbons' screensaver does run better than before on my HP nc8000 laptop
