Best way to deploy Hotfixes

Right well I've just tried this on a new PC from an external comppany so it wasn't build by us and is an OEM version of XP SP3 I also attached it to a fresh test domain and the result is the same. I've even redownloaded the patch I can only conclude that this patch doesn't work.

 

Whats the best way to relay this to MS?

Well until I can get this sorted I've copied the file from an SP2 box and all is normal again I haven't observed any issues so far. I'll do this to a suite and see.

Well i've been on to Microsoft for over an hour now and we managed to get the pach to install but it doesn't resolve the issue. The reason that it doesn't install is that this patch KB968389 (I think this one comes from WSUS) replaces the dll with a later version than the one in the KB958058-v2 patch.

Looks like i'll have to pay to raise a call.

UPDATE

 

I've been on to MS for 4 hours today and they're now convinced that there is a problem. The WindowsXP-KB958058-v2-x86-ENU.exe only fixes the issue with roaming profiles. As we use a Default User profile that it hosted on Netlogon on our domain controllers that 'apparently' isn't classed as a roaming profile. Anyway they agree that this is an issue that was introduced in SP3 and are going to investigate.

Right it's a known flaw that won't be fixed as 'wait for it' it's fixed in Vista SP1. You have to wonder sometimes SP2 fine SP3 broken but the issue is fixed in the next upgrade

 

They suggested two options 1. Upgrade 2. Buy an extended support agreement, if I do that it will probably get fixed.

 

Anyway it's fixed if I assigne a mandatory profile to the students but it will still affect staff.
