XP Volume Hotkeys

Does anyone know if there are any hotkeys to increase the volume in windows XP? We hide the sound icon in the system tray so kids cant play about with it as default.

I placed a copy of Volume Control in the startmenu, so they can change the volume if they want to.

Also that qliner you can get it to assign volume up, down, mute etc via the keyboard shortcuts

nircmd is handy little exe that I use in a logon script for resetting volume... just wondering if something could be built around it for your purpose?

I've found various pages offering suggestions but nothing I've tried so far works. Aargh!

On many laptops/netbooks pressing a combination of 'fn' plus the volume button allows you to increase/decrease the volume, but something consistent across all machines would be better. A software solution like you've found would be best

No, I'm using desktops. They all have headphones but the kids turn the volume up full and (apart from ruining their hearing) then can't hear the teachers and they shout at each other.

I've put a bunch of scripts together that can mute, unmute, and set the volume control high/low etc using psexec and nircmd...

 

BUT the volume control is still on the taskbar so the kids just crank the volume up again!

 

I've tried several reg hacks to remove the volume icon that I've googled, but none of them seem to work, hench I was wondering what Tim was doing...
