Setting up ESXi on a Proliant ML-110

I'm not sure if this is a hardware question or an ESX one, but I've put it here because the Proliant ML110 is a cheap and popular host for ESX.

 

I've got one of the latest models, it has four 160Gb drives in it which I'm trying to RAID 1+0. However, when I do, ESX 4 doesn't see it as one 300Gb drive.

 

I'd be interested to know if anyone else has a similar setup and how they did it.

Based on the ML115 - ESX can not boof from the internal hard drive controller. The fix on the ML115 was to actually install ESX on to memory stick, and then once it was installed and booted on the memory stick ESX could see the whatever hard drive configuration you created and you could use it to store VMs.

Are those the HP's with the internal usb socket? if so create a bootable usb stick and put it inside it then you can boot it.

If you're using the onboard raid esxi won't see the raid array it will see the drives individually. You need to use a supported hardware raid card for it to see the array.

 

If you've got another ml110 or some other spare box, you could throw the 4 drives in there and set it up as shared storage for esxi using something like openfiler.
