Hi Guys,

I have been thinking ALOT over the last few weeks about doing some Certifications in the CompTIA, the ones I fancy doing are:

CompTIA A+

CompTIA Network+

and

CompTIA Server+

Does anyone know where I can go too check prices etc

And lastly is it worth it the CompTIA Certifications?

Thanks,

Ian.

Ian,

I would recommend doing all of them to be honest. Might not be much need for them in an educational environment, however lots of industry jobs are advertising for people especially for Server or Network +. Also gives you a good grounding for MS certifications aswell, particularly the Network Infrastructure exam required for MCSA/MCSE.

If required I will send you some sample examinations/training material from when I did it (albeit a few years out of date, but will give you an idea!)

Cheers,

Matt

Ian

I have put a couple of the technicians here through the comptia programme.

I gave them 3 hours per week study time and but them a selection of self study guides which they happily worked through.

When they were ready to sit the tests we looked up a local provider and they went along and passed all exams first time.

Much cheaper this way (this wasn't the reason we did it this way) but it meant that they had no pressure and could spend as much or as little time as they wanted and only sat the test when they were confident of passing.

I would definitely recommend doing it like this rather than paying big $$$ through a company.

ahhhhhhhhhh ic, because I spoke to a company today who are offering the A+ and they wanted £1,600

Where did you look for the local company?

Welcome to CompTIA UK

Then choose Test Centre Locator.

Off the top of my head £90 per exam rings a bell.

I did my A+ at a local college - one evening each week for around 20 weeks. The cost was about £250. I was told that anyone who has 500 hours of hands-on IT experience should sail through the exam with very little additional work. I did Network+ subsequently, but under my own steam. The college had planned to run it but didn't have sufficient interest to make it cost effective.

ic, Im looking to study from home and pay for the exams, I've been in IT for over 8 years and all looks easy enough.

OK Ian, as far as I know, the CompTIA exams are all a standard fee. When I did my course, we had vouchers available (also for my CCNA course) which gave a discount but these vouchers were only available to folks who did a course at a recognised centre. Check the Pearson Vue site (Pearson VUE) for test centres near to where you are.
