Run USB PEN Drives on a standalone XP laptop with no admin rights

Hi

 

Can anyone suggest on how to allow a user with no admin rights at all to be able to run a USB pen drive when it is plugged in?

 

At the moment it is asking for the administrator username and password which is a pain as the user keeps coming to me everytime he has a new pen drive.

enable install new Hardware and disbale the need for drivers to be signed in GPO, do a search on here and I'm sure you will find out how to do this if you are not familiar with editing Group Policy Objects

This laptop is not part of the domain, it is a stand alone. would that still be the case?

yes instead of running it from the server run it from the local group policy, gpedit.msc

thanks for writing USBDLM, it is a massively useful program.

 

I have it working with the registry packaged as an msi. Lots of happy teacher/kids in our schools.
