Free shared calendars

Does anyone know where i can get a piece of software which is basically a shared calendar that works on a domain environment and allows muiltple users to add and edit entries. I thought about exchange shared calendars but some of the users use PST files on the local hard drive which prevents that use of sharing calendars.

Depending on how trusting you are of using an external hosting, Google Calendars can be shared. I use several of them for various bits and pieces. Can be secured so that only certain people can add and edit events if you want as well.

hmm thought about google calendars but i can see the staff here whinging about having to log into google. All that it is going to be used for is to put a staff name in when they are away or not in school. I thought SIMS could have handled this to be honest.

Very true, I never thought of that. I only use it with people that already use Google Calendars, and just to add stuff into their work diaries for them.

 

Could you not use a Joomla calendar with staff write rights? Even better if you are already using it for the school website! I am by no means a web stuff expert so somebody else will hopefully be able to better advise you about a plug in that would do what you want.

I have setup a full working school calender on google. only the two front office girls can change the data so i don't have to worry about it overflowing with useless data. And for staff i made an active desktop website wallpaper with the several things but set front page as the google cal so no one can say thay did not have access to dates and deadlines, its right in front of them as they log in.

Good point AWicher - Google Calendars do offer a very customisable way of embedding code into an existing website.

Just to bring this thread back to life... is there a way to share a sub-calendar in an exchange-outlook environment?

I know how to share the default calendar but i am unsure if you are able to share a Sub-Calendar. What i mean by sub-calendar is:

 

Mailbox: UserA

--Calendar

----Sub-Calendar (want to share this one)

--Contacts

--Deleted Items

Etc....

 

If not, i may have to create a user specific user in exchange for this purpose, as everyone else's calendars are in use.

Zimbra makes a pretty good job of shared calendars if that is any use

you can use it alongside outlook, not sure if outlook will use all of zimbra's calendaring functionality though - you can probably see merged calendars

If you're using Outlook 2007 I believe it was possible, I don't think Outlook 2003 supports sharing of anything but the default calendar.

 

I haven't used either since before the summer hols so I can't remember...

Hi I think this should be possible by creating another calendar on a mailbox and sharing that. In Exchange 2007 a user can have as many calendars as she/he wants i.e. some people use the main calendar for work and another or personal i.e. holidays, appointments (personal) etc.

 

It should be possible on both outlook 2003 and 2007.
