Little-Miss Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Error creating the output bitmap file C:\WINDOWS\BGInfo.bmp: Access is denied Please ensure the path exists and you have permission to write to it. The workstations are using this quite happily but my netbooks dont want to apart from admin. What's been missed?
EduTech Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 (edited) I'm guessing you have a script that is copying that bmp file from a network location onto the local machine? or do you have the bitmap already on the local machine? if so then you might need to give the network users (staff users / student users) local admin rights or something similar so they can write to the folder in question. Edit: DO NOT GIVE FULL PERMISSIONS TO WINDOWS FOLDER! *Thanks Synack* James. Edited August 20, 2009 by EduTech 1
Michael Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 Logon as an administrator, Start > Run > MMC File > Add/Remove Snap-in > Add > Local Users and Groups > Add > Finish > Close > OK Expand Local Users and Groups. Select Groups > Administrators, then add Domain Users. Now try logging on as a normal user. 1
Little-Miss Posted August 20, 2009 Author Posted August 20, 2009 sweet!! So i've got to do that for all 20 machines....poop
Michael Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 You can do it from remotely from one machine, so long as the others are switched on, again via MMC. In future you can perform this to your master images, so after Sysprep BGInfo will work as it should 1
SYNACK Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 you might need to give the network users (staff users / student users) local admin rights or something similar so they can write to that Directory. EEK, No, Bad!! You just need to give them permission to that particular file not the entire machine. Just right click on the file, properties and change the security to allow domain users full control. Doing it the other way gives every single user full control of the machine which is bad in a school.
EduTech Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 yeah ... er i didn't say that it was my ghost!!! :| edited
Little-Miss Posted August 20, 2009 Author Posted August 20, 2009 lol, i did wonder... I've done it Michaels way.
Learning2geek Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 (edited) When I ran into this issue, it was on a server and what's happening is they wrote the server specs into an image file that is supposed to display on the desktop of the server so you can see the host name, ip, etc. That information is all in the file name bginfo.bmp, which I have access to. That information is not displaying on the desktop as intended. My guess is they used the wrong code, or set it up improperly. It's not my problem to worry about, so I just click OK to the error message, and go about my business. The message is merely a nuisance; it's not prohibiting any activity.
