Office 2007 Compatibility Pack Deploy using MSI

I want to start using GP to deploy msi. I am starting off deploying Office 2007 Compatibility Pack to 50pc's.

 

I got the msi 012Conv and copied it into a shared folder and then created a GP and assigned it at computer settings.

 

I restarted the PC and can see it trying to install. I Check the add/remove software and its not there.

 

Event viewer shows me the following.

Product: Compatibility Pack for the 2007 Office system -- Error 1311. Source file not found(cabinet): \\2003server\Software\O12Conv.cab. Verify that the file exists and that you can access it.

If I remember correctly, we created a directory on our application share and extracted all of the files that were in the Office Pack .exe

 

We found these files in the %temp% directory.

 

We moved them all to the share - but there is more than the MSI that needs copying over. Once that was done it installed properly.

 

I'm not in school at the moment so I cannot check, but I'm sure that's what we did.

Maybe you need to to an administrative install first to expand the MSI? Then deploy that.

You can also extract the .exe with 7zip, which is what worked for me. Additionally, I put the 2007 MSI in the same GPO as my 2003 MSI install. That way, when the GPO gets upgraded by 2k7, the converter gets removed too.

 

I have a separate GPO for MSWorks and ODF converters too, as these are of course wanted independently of the Office revision installed on the PCs in question.
