Headphone Jack Problems

Morning all,

 

I was at a site yesterday where they have a couple of machines with objects stuck within the headphone jack port (on the back of the PC). What appears to of happened is the school have some jack splitters and some of the children have snapped off them off inside. Can anyone advise how I can get the metal out?

 

I did think a strong magnet may do it (I'd remove the hard drive beforehand), but I don't think the metal used for headphones/jack splitters is magnetic. Any suggestions would be welcome!

I've used pliers or tweezers for this before. If you can't get in enough though, you will need to dismantle the jack socket which is a PITA.

Can you actually do this on the motherboard itself? I've never tried. It should be ok to do this on the front of the case.

If you can open the case, you should be able to poke something into the socket from the inside, pushing the item out. But it depends on the socket, some of them have holes in the end, some don't.

Use a very fine/small screw driver, push it down the middle of the jack, as they only have a softcore twist and pull. This should solve your problem.

You can poke them out from inside the case with a fine piece of wire.

 

Alternativly I've done this before with a metal rod and some super glue.
