IE 8

Hi all,

 

We've just put in a new IT suite of 31 computers. They all have IE 8 on them and we're in a bit of a pickle. When ever a new user log's in and uses IE 8 it brings up the IE 8 wizard page. Is there any way of stopping this on all of the computers?

Local group policy or security settings should allow you to set this after the installation of ie8

 

control panel --> administrative tools --> group policy -> local security policy

 

or

 

start --> run --> gpedit.msc

If you are on a domain either add the ADM templates manually or install IE8 on the server that you use to manage group policy. Then it will have all of the settings for ie8. The one that you are after is under:

 

User Settings -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Internet Explorer : Prevent Performance of first run Customize Settings

 

This is also avalible under

machine settings -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Internet Explorer : Prevent Performance of first run Customize Settings

so you can turn it off on the machine for everyone instead of just users with the policy applied to them.

 

You may also want to switch on/off the fishing filter etc from this area.

As already mentioned, obtaining the latest inetres.adm template will include new policies for IE8. It's safe to overwrite the existing version when prompted.

 

This will allow you to control IE5, 1E6, 1E7 and IE8 browsers if you have a mixed environment on 2000/XP/2003.

Just be prepared to change your default profile too as it comes up with some configuration boxes about addons for me when the kiddies logged on.

If you're talking about the 'run once' configuration, you can switch this off using GPOs too.
