sounds like they need to sort out the salary levels accross the board but naming and shaming is really not appropriate, getting pics from facebook is even worse - you really can't blame him for accepting the job etc. I certainly wouldn't turn it down if I were in a position to be offered it!

The thing to note, is that just because it's in the Daily Mail it does not mean it's true. The paper is vile !!

And why do they need to hire a consultant as CIO.

 

Put an ad in the papers, or on of the public sector jobsites, advertise for 100k a year, and see the type of candidate who will beat a path to your door.

that's because they pay you and the recruitment agency 350k a year !!!!

 

Wonder how much he actually pays in tax as a consultant. I think it's about time stuff like this was highlighted, he is a tip of a iceberg as there are doubtless many, many even more anonymous individuals quietly beavering away working as paid consultants earning six figure sums in these quango's and public sector bodies.

 

All the attention appears to have been focused on the pay and renumeration of the CEO's of big banks and corporates, when few if any understand the demands and job duties placed on these individuals. Accountable to shareholders, under scrutiny from politicians and the media. Not an enviable position even at 1 bar a year plus pension benefits. And i assume they can't easily avoid paying 40% taxes on their six and seven figure salaries.

 

These consultants however, they trouser six figure sums in what are effectively full-time permanent positions, probably don't pay tax at the higher rate and fly under the radar most of the time. He's obviously in a more prominent position but 350k is a heck of a lot of money for the services of one individual.

It's a genuine question; I don't know the answer but an awful lot of high earners do everything they can to avoid paying tax. It will almost always be legal (tax avoidance rather than tax evasion) but for people that do it, it means that they're not paying their fair share.
