network monitoring tool

is there any free home network monitoring tools? Just a basic program which would tell me which machines are on the network, any wireless devices etc. nothing very fancy!!

You could use Spiceworks.

Could you use the web front end of your wireless router?

 

The PC's requesting an IP will be shown with hostname and mac address.
