Domain Controller not reading mapped drive!

It is certainly looking more and more like a network card problem. However, when I try and do anything it always seems to just 'hang'.

 

Could be a long day!

It sounds like the server has suffered a rather nasty scramble software wise. The fact that the drivers have gone missing is not a good sign and basic services like windows installer not being accessable also does not bode well. Make sure that it is not in safe mode (it will say if it in on the bottom right hand corner of the desktop).

 

I would first scan it for viruses and malware as well as looking for faulting hardware like hard drives. You could also try rebooting while holding down the F8 key and selecting last known good configuration from the list. If you have a system state backup it could be an idea to try and restore it to bring the configuration back to what it should be.

 

After checking all of this if you are unable to restore propper function of the NICs and get all the primary services back up you may need to rebuild the machine.

You have two network cards on the DC, try disabling one and test the connection to the File server N drive. If that works, disable the other and try the same thing.

 

If they both work, perhaps it's a problem with your teaming configuration. If one works and the other doesn't, replace the NIC that didn't work and team again.

 

If neither works, then try pinging the loop back 127.0.0.1 whicle each of NIC's are disabled. If that works then it may be something outside the server side. Perhaps the network cable, a hub or switch if there is one between the DC and the file server.

You just wouldn't believe the nightmare I have had with this! The main problem I am not getting any support from my bosses....For example, it took them 10 days to get me a couple of PCI-X NIC's to test to see if it was just the embedded NIC's that were faulty/damaged etc.

 

So the problem dragged out and dragged out....Eventually I am now going to reinstall W2K3, as it looks as though quite a few things are corrupted, and see if that works.

 

All I need to do now is try and export/import AD!
