Thin Client Laptops Costs

Can anyone tell me why thin client laptops are so expensive?

Senior Team had an idea of using them but not now.

We had a look at the idea the only real reason I can think of is economies of scale they just don't shift enough at the moment to drive down the price, or they're simply overpriced Edited July 15, 2009 by cookie_monster

They also use components that are specced for a different purpose... e.g. low power processors and solid state storage with high capacity batteries to eek out the usage times.

 

There is of course nothing stopping you using 'regular' laptops and adapting them to suite your needs - I have 30 HP nx6110 laptops that run as wireless ICA clients.

What's the battery life like on the nx6110 with them being celerons Ric? We were thinking about something like the Samsung NC10 being possibility if we went down this route as they give about 7 hours.

Yes they are super expensive because they only sell about 10 per year. Thin client adoption is not high in the fat client world - it is miniscule in the laptop world.

 

But hey - if you buy 'em now - that will help drive prices down for us!

Mine are Pentium-M (Celeron... spit!). Battery life is perfectly adaquate for a lesson or two and they are kept in a LapSafe
