Hi,

I am looking for a quote for 28 to 30 PCs for our maths department. For this particular room, space is limited so I have been looking at Dell's Ultra-Small Form Factor Optiplex 760 PCs. This is the spec we will need:

-Intel Core 2 Duo 2GHz+

-80GB SATA II HDD

-2 GB RAM DDR2

-Ethernet

-DVD-/+RW

-XP OS

-Slim Keyboards and mice

-3 Yr warranty

We also need 15" monitors with integrated usb hub and 4x USB ports. They must also be wall mountable (VESA) and therefore don't need stands.

If you need more info please ask.

Thanks

Simon for CPLTD and Dan @ wstore have some great offers on Dells/HP Small form factor machines at the moment, i'm sure they will be along shortly! :) would recommend you get a quote of them.

But i would also consider speaking to Richard from the Edugeek Acer Outlet who has some small Acers going at a good price. Acer have improved since a few years ago so something to consider!

Hi reprised, I'll get a quote over to you shortly. With regards the monitor - are you able to look at 17" or 19" options? There arent many 15", if any, around at the moment I'm afraid

Sorry for the delay getting to you I have two options which I think would interest you if you PM me your e-mail address I will send you over a couple of quotes on Friday. One unit will mount to the monitor thus saving even more space.

Hi,

We are a 100% Dell site with 900 clients using the Dell Optiplex GX745, 755 & 760. They are all ultra small form factor. They are excellent.

My last place purchased some Acers are they where rubbish, they wouldn't boot up with a smartbaord plugged it. (sorry acer man)

Simon always trys his upmost to help, if he does you the best price i would go with him myself.

Sorry you have had problems in the past, I assume you purchased M464s? These had a mainboard issue with USB power at boot up. I agree this was frustrating and required either a powered USB hub or the smart board to be plugged in after startup.

I have been working with the technical director at Steljis who are the UK distributor of Smart boards and the model I would have suggested here would be the L410 which after extensive testing has not been found to have any problems.

Hope that helps.

I would agree that if Dell is your only way forward Simon is the man!

It was that modal. Acer ended up sending us a cheque to buy 1 Powered USB hub for each machine.

At least they sorted you an alternative out, i must admit since speaking with Richard and purchasing items from him through the EG Acer Outlet my thoughts on Acer Systems have Improved! There support is much better then it used to be.. and at least if your purchase it from the outlet (Richard) you kow if you have any problems he will get it sorted for you!

So you cant really moan to be honest... @ Reprised If all else fails i really would consider acer machines :) as much as i love Dell and HP :)

We bought about 35 of the Optiplex 755 USFF last year and they are very good. We have a lot of Dell equipment too and is generally very good.

@CPLTD: Did you get my PM about getting a quote?

Thanks

why not get the vista business licence with the downgrade to XP. if you get it from the right supplier, you also get the upgrade to windows 7 when it comes out!

We have a xp volume licence so is that the best way to go? Also anyone having trouble getting through to Dell as they are always busy?

Posted

if you have the volume licence, why get the OS in the first place? Save yourself some money

Install the OS

Install the drivers

Install your software

Ghost/Clone the harddrive

Will take a day at most for 30 hard drives!

1. If you have volume licence you need a base OS on the machine, volume licencing is an upgrade to an existing OS. If you install a Volume Licence software without a base OS installed you will be breaking licensing terms.

2. Dell dont ship without an OS

To ghost 30 machines it will take an hour, it takes longer setting up all the machines.

All Acer Vista Business PCs and Laptops come with XP Pro downgrade and Windows 7 upgrade.

ALl Acer Vista Home Premium PCs and Laptops have Windows 7 upgrade.

The upgrade must be registed with Acer before December and will cost about £12-15.

Hope that helps.

Dell told me you can downgrade to xp pro from vista home premium but Simon from CPLTD has informed me that that is wrong and you can only do that with vista business or higher??
