Yesterday, a colleague and I who are both full time disturbed two burglars who were trying to get away with some of our whiteboard projectors. We were both threatened with being stabbed, so we let them get away.

This made us realise quite how vulnerable we are as when we turn the alarm off to gain access to the building, the building is completely unalarmed.

We are now rather concerned about our own safety as we can be in completely different parts of the building.

What do other schools do regarding security during the holidays?

hi

Be glad you did the right thing and let them get away...

right as to security here

there should one access in and out (you fire exit doors should be ones that can open fromside but not from outside)

This access should have some kind keypad or security card system so only staff can get in..

Here if i am on my own as sometimes it happens then I make sure the front door is locked hard look to staff who want to get in.

also we make sure everybody signs in and out a book so that we know who is in etc..

after that we use common sense...

Phew! Glad you're ok!

I don't have access to my site alone - which is a pain 'coz I need to do loads of work sometimes and am tied to working the same hours as the caretakers. If there's just me there only my point of access is unlocked - and we're mindful of the security risks. Sating that it's quieter here - no one has attempted to take that sort of equipment.... yet.........

hehe I got me own keys :p :P

But a damn good point nawbus - Its something I was discussing with the caretaker a few weeks ago - as the same goes for him too when its just him in the building.

Clocking in system would be handy - doesn't have to incude times if your a dosser lol but a sign in and sign out would be good indeed.

Hope your cctv got them nawbus :D

CCTV? What's that then???? We're lucky to have bolts on the doors!

Luckily I've been on my hols since, but when I go back next week I'm going to have a chat with the Head about the security of the site.

With my exeptionally cynical head on, it will be interesting to see what, if anything is done. It would also be interesting to see what the difference would have been if it had been a teacher that confronted the burglars and not support staff!
