[gentoo] dns broken for vpn client

Ive got 2 gentoo servers, .4 and .12. Both are bind dns servers. .12is an openvpn server too. DNS works fine using either server for clients on the local server, but when I connect via VPN, i get an error:

and in the /var/log/messages i see

 

Jul  6 06:26:19 oasis named[23051]: client 10.8.0.6#37381: query (cache) 'www.edugeek.net/A/IN' denied

 

This has only recently started, they both used to work fine.. Any ideas?
