Totally non-IT related question. Paramedics.

How do I find out how to train to become a paramedic? I once worked with a guy who was doing the training to qualify as a paramedic whilst doing another full-time job.

 

My cousin is looking at a career change and the websites we've discovered haven't been very informative so far.

I've known people apply directly to the relevant ambulance service to become paramedics, but more commonly through St John's Ambulance where they've wanted to keep a full-time job while training. If nothing else, St John's should be able to advise you well.

Also if you volunteer with the Red Cross (I do... you have to like your tea!), they will train you to ambulance technician level. They actually run a reserve ambulance emergency service, that you can volunteer for (eventually) whilst working. Edited July 2, 2009 by mossj

Take a look on the trust of the local ambulance service, they tend to have information on their sites I know EMAS does.

The route these days is often a foundation degree or a degree in paramedic science - google it and there is loads of info on the Unis that do it

Exactly what I researched a few months ago, was thinking about a career change, and paramedic is defiantly on the top of my "Want todo list"

 

Even contacted local ambulance trusts and as Witch stated, the easiest way advised is a Foundation Degree, and volunteering at Red Cross as stated above. You than do training as an Ambulance Technician, and from there get the opportunity to drive an ambulance, should you pass advanced driving etc etc
