A very nice freeware tool for analyzing the userenv.log file is available by Syspro software : Policy Reporter (SysPro Software -> Policy Reporter).

Ok the download just decided to work.. maybe i was too quick for MS and the download wasnt there at the time..

 

EDIT: Ok apparently this is supposed to be fixed in sp3 so the hotfix i downloaded wont work. The error seens to be the same tho..

takes about 10 seconds here for the students mandatory profiles which are only about 2 meg big. Maybe a minute for teachers depending on the size of their roaming profile.

 

If only I could find a way to configure outlook using mandatory profiles I could have everyone logging on quickly

Its a hotfix so it needs a password.

Can you post what you have redirected?

There is a SP3 issue with redirected folders too.

edit the registry to point at a config file, although this may fail if the user name attribute can return multiple matches. Teaching staff have a mandatory profile with outlook here.

Can you explain a bit more as I've been trying to do this for a while.

 

What kind of config file? and where is the registry entry?

 

I will write a wiki entry on it if I can get it working as there are 100s of people trying to do it on the internet and no real instructions.

Usually anywhere between 30 seconds to 60 seconds is an acceptable logon time from start to finish. This takes into consideration profile size, wireless or wired, speed of the workstations and load on the servers.

I've been chasing this for a while now and it does seem like i have this problem:

The only thing is that we have sp3 on and every single update for xp and IE. I've tried getting the hotfix for it (earlier in the thread) but its for sp2. I've tried uninstalling IE and reinstalling.. doesnt seem to do any better. Gonna see if MS will help but i doubt it because they most likely want to deploy IE8.

 

Any ideas anyone?

OK even tho the problem seem to be with IE7, its not. Brndlog.txt did show a delay but it seems to be fixed now. This howevery did now resolve the 20 second gap caused by rundll32.exe.

Single prf, use %UserName% (mine is MailboxName=%UserName%).

 

This can be an issue if you search AD for a username and get more than one result, mine for example doesn't work with this, but then I have no mandatory profile. My user name is david, this returns all the exchange enabled Davids in AD and will prompt when opening outlook. Staff user names use their initials/sims staff code which are individual and will not return any other users, students use sims admin numbers so they would be ok too.

 

You can run it with a script, but it will cause outlook to open when it's applied, with the registry it simply applies it when the user opens outlook.
